How to buy the best PC (for you)?

computer best

Computers have come a long way since the old days. Considering the “old days” were just a decade or two ago! We clearly remember pushing furniture and getting the room for the new family member. Today, you can get a powerful desktop PC the size of a, um, mobile phone. But that`s another story.

Desktop PCs were, and still are a great and reliable solution for your family or business, but there was always one problem: their size. With the technology advance, we wanted more space, faster performance, and elegant design. Still, compared to other devices such as smartphones and laptops, PCs took a lot of room and seemed losing the battle to new devices. Portability wasn’t even considered and even more, compact design seems hard to fit in.

So with trying to save space, or to fit more computers in the office, the mini PC got its chance. We know that performance wasn’t the top reason for shifting to mini PC – what we wanted is a sleek, compact design and just enough computing power to fulfill a variety of everyday tasks.

Mini PCs as money and space savers

Mini PCs fully replicate the desktop experience and offer a better user experience for those struggling with office or home space. Some of them use laptop components such as low-power processors, and when bought without attached display or keyboard, the mini PC is a real bargain.

Some of the best mini-PCs on the market are both run by Windows and Linux operating systems, and the sole term covers a few types of computer.

First, there is the board-only PC, a microcomputer, or maker board.  A few terms covering what is basically a motherboard with attached system-on-a-chip, or the SOC. If you are a bit tech savvy, you can transform it into almost anything you want. Their very low cost got them very popular among the maker community.

But if you just want a proper replacement for your desktop PC, there’s a large selection of Windows run mini PCs. These are much closer to the desktops and laptops we’re familiar with. They support both SSDs and hard disks, have upgradable RAM and a wide range of external ports. And if you want more control, you can always choose so-called “barebones box”, where you buy and install the RAM, storage drives, and operating system yourself. For those opting for fast and reliable solutions, there is a ready-made system waiting for them in any computer store.

Laptops – third`s a charm?

While a huge chunk of the corporate world being on the go, maybe you need more adaptive computing solution to accommodate all your needs. Laptops also went through its share of transformation, from bulky and heavy to slim and lightweight. Those changes followed with proper upgrades in power, size, capacity, and memory, but some laptop problems occur way too often. Battery, speed, heating, anyone?

Laptops are (and their purpose is to be moved around very often. That brings to air intake limiting, takes to overheating and could lead to shutting down. Their hard drive space is sometimes more limited than with desktop PCs and could drive to poor performances.

And the last, but the very important issue might be that its battery doesn’t last. We are constantly monitoring improvements in that area, and some of the latest laptop versions have an amazing capacity.

But, the fear of draining our battery and running out of power is constant, like most of us being hard on our battery.

You cannot find a gadget to suit all possible needs for everyone. Some would like their stability, memory, and power – other light design and mobility. We are always opting for a clear and thorough assessment of all our important needs and requirements, before choosing the right PC. It is easier and cheaper in long term.
